Structure
  • The OFCTGMB is a provincial marketing board that operates under the authority of the Farm Products Marketing Act, and the supervision of the Farm Products Marketing Commission.
  • The Board consists of one director and two committeemen for each of the ten growing districts, plus an 11th Member. The term of office for Board Directors is two years, with half the Board to be elected each year and the 11th member appointed annually. The Chairman and Vice-Chairman are elected annually by Board members. Currently these positions are held by Mr. Tom McElhone and Mrs. Linda Vandendriessche respectively.
  • The Head Office is located in Tillsonburg. The Board owns one auction exchange that is located in Delhi.
Tobacco Advisory Committee (T.A.C.)
  • The Board is a member of the T.A.C. along with Domestic Manufacturers, Exporters, and the federal and provincial governments.
  • The T.A.C. strives to plan for the future of the industry
Research/Cultural Practices
  • The Board plays a vital role in research and extension.
  • Currently, research and extension programs are focused on quality assurance, environment and competitiveness.
  • Quality Incentive Programs are offered to producers along with various workshops and educational programs.
  • Production is geared to meet ever-changing demands in the domestic and export marketplace.
Marketing
  • All tobaccos grown in Ontario must be sold through the Board's auction exchange.
  • Tobaccos are classified for uniformity.
  • Crops are graded by Independent Graders using the grade standards of the Farm Products Grades and Sales Act.
  • Tobacco is sold through regressive bidding on an electronically operated "Dutch" clock
